Domestic Air Travel Hits New High, Surpasses Pre-Covid Average

Domestic air travel reached a record high on 30 April, exceeding the pre-covid average, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said.   

4,56,082 passengers flew in a single day on Sunday across 2,978 flights, while there were a total of 5,947 flight movements, according to the ministry.  

The country’s domestic air travel sector has been on a path to recovery for the past number of months after being severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic.  

" India's domestic air traffic reaches new heights with an all-time high!”, on 30 April 2023, the civil aviation ministry tweeted on Monday.  

Before the Covid pandemic, the daily domestic passenger average stood at 3,98,579.  

“Indian civil aviation sector is setting new records every day - Post-Covid, skyrocketing domestic air passenger numbers are a sign of India's rising growth and prosperity.”, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia tweeted on his personal page.  

In March, domestic carriers flew 128.93 lakh passengers, a 21.4 per cent increase over the same time last year. At the same time, passengers carried by domestic carriers during the January-March 2023 period stood at 375.04 lakh, compared to 247.23 lakhs a year before, according to the latest data published by the aviation regulator DGCA. Clocking in a 21.4 per cent monthly growth and a 51.7 per cent annual growth.
