Tourism Fiji launches ‘Bin It or Bag It’ campaign

The campaign encourages both locals and visitors to responsibly dispose of waste by either using available bins or storing trash in bags

Tourism Fiji has launched the “Bin It or Bag It” campaign, a new initiative aimed at promoting a litter-free Fiji and advancing sustainable tourism efforts. The campaign, which emerged from the 2023 Fiji Tourism Convention, encourages both locals and visitors to responsibly dispose of waste by either using available bins or storing trash in bags to be disposed of later.

Led by key private sector partners including Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, and Rosie Holidays, the campaign has garnered support from 15 organisations, raising over FJ$100,000 in contributions.

"We are thrilled to launch the 'Bin it or Bag it' campaign alongside our dedicated partners," said Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji. "This initiative embodies our commitment to sustainable tourism practices and highlights the collective responsibility we share in safeguarding Fiji’s environment. As we roll out this initiative, we encourage all Fijians and visitors to embrace the ethos of 'Bin it or Bag it'”.

Featuring a catchy jingle and creative illustrations by local talents such as musician Kuki and Studio Lily Kate, the campaign introduces ‘Kasikasi,’ a character promoting responsible waste management. Reusable bags with the campaign slogan will be available at outlets across Fiji.

The "Bin It or Bag It" campaign will be showcased on billboards, newspapers, radio, and digital platforms. Tourism Fiji has also partnered with the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and the Ministry for Environment and Climate Change to align the initiative with national sustainability goals.
