BW HOTELIER celebrated The World Environment Day on 5th of June by going on the streets and interacting with people of various age groups about their perspective regarding environment-friendly techniques used by different hotels and what impact do these eco ways have on our environment. The world environment day theme for 2019 is “beat air pollution”.
In this contemporary world wherein people are in a mad rush there has been an increasing awareness about saving our mother planet in order to have a better environment to live in. Many people are now wanting to stay in eco-friendly hotels or the green hotels which helps in reducing the carbon footprints and these initiatives taken by the hotels helps in preserving nature.
During our interaction with people, we came across the fact that many hotels have now started using techniques such as rainwater harvesting, low flow shower heads. There has been increasing use of sheet changing cards which tells the housekeeping that if the card is left on pillows in the morning, your sheets should not be changed that way. Use of natural fibre sheets, linen towels and reusing these commodities as well helps in preserving the water.
Moreover these days hotels use paper bags instead of plastic bag for the packaging of the food, usually locally grown food is used by the hotel to support the local farmers as well as to reduce the transportation expenditure which reduces the air pollutants.
An interesting insight given by the people is that hotels are now making healthy air exchange by promoting green lands there is an increase no of plantations in many hotels.
Whenever the word travel pops up in our mind the only thing that comes first in our mind is the pleasure and relaxation activities , however one should never forget that the world in which we live is not our home forever , the humans, as well as the animals, are only temporary tenants who have the privilege to use the resources of the environment . We should sustainably use these resources as we have to pass on this playground to our future generation.
