Adventure Tourism recognised as Niche Tourism Product by the Ministry of Tourism to promote India as a 365-day destination

Though the promotion and development of tourism, including adventure tourism, enhancing safety and convenience at adventure tourism sites and conducting surveys to recognise new sites for adventure tourism is the prime responsibility of the state governments/ Union Territory administration, the Ministry of Tourism has recognised Adventure Tourism as a Niche Tourism Product to promote India as a 365-day destination and attract tourists with specific interest.

The guidelines for the approval of Adventure Tour Operators as well as provided Central Financial Assistance to the state governments/ UT Administration for the development of tourism infrastructure which include those in Adventure Tourism destinations under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme for Integrated Development of Tourism Circuits have also been issued by the Ministry of Tourism. 

A set of guidelines on safety and quality norms known as Basic Minimum Standards for Adventure Tourism Activities too has been formulated to boost adventure tourism in the country. This information was given by the Minister of Tourism G Kishan Reddy in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.
