Business Travel a ‘Social Status’ for Millenials

‘OnRoute - the Business Edition’ is FabHotels’ first consumer survey which highlights that millennials today benchmark business travel with success. 92 percent of millennials today eagerly look forward to their next business trip - making it the most coveted business perk. Survey also revealed that 4 out of 10 people believe business travel to be an indicator of career growth.

As per the survey, in the past six months, 4 out of every 10 respondents have travelled more than five times on a business trip. Slightly more than 45 percent respondents travelled to meet their teams in other cities, while around 42 percent travelled to sign up new business. The pan-India survey saw participation of 5000+ respondents.

‘OnRoute’ also highlights various other aspects of business travel and the changing behaviour of the millennial traveller. With social media sharing becoming the adage of all travel decisions today, the line between business and leisure getaways is getting increasingly blurred. Close to  46 percent business travellers spend their leisure time during business trips in exploring the destination, be it experiencing the nightlife, ambience or indulging in an impromptu shopping spree, and sharing their indulgence on Facebook and Instagram.

Business trips are also apparently a great opportunity to catch up with some ‘me’ time. More than 45 percent respondents like to carry their favourite books while on the go while 22 percent carry their work-out gear with them while travelling. Infact, ~33 percent of the respondents also said that they would like to meet someone romantically on a business trip.

Opposed to the conventional myth that business travel is rushed and packing is usually done the night before or the same morning, the survey results show that a meagre 8 percent of the respondents pack their bag the morning before catching their flight. Surprisingly, 25 percent travellers said they take more than a week to pack their bags so as to be better prepared and organised.

Commenting on the survey findings, Vaibhav Aggarwal, Founder & CEO, FabHotels said, “We are thrilled to have received a great response with users participating across tier 1 and 2 cities. The OnRoute findings reveal the changing psyche of Millennial travellers who are open, social and love to travel. The survey is an attempt to connect with this set of audience and understand the evolving  needs of this consumer. This will help us design products and services to better cater to their requirements.”

There’s also an increasing trend of extending business trips for leisure. 40 percent of respondents said they almost always extend their business trip for leisure, while 45 percent said they do it on and off. Only 15 percent  respondents said they do not end up extending their business trip for leisure at all due to lack of time.
