THE Park New Delhi recently hosted the book launch of Ganika, edited by art historian and curator Dr Seema Bhalla. Based on the courtesans of 19th-20th century India, the book launch also featured a discussion of the contributors of the book - Dr Swarnmalya Ganesha, Dr AK Das, Dr Shweta Sachdeva Jha, Yatindra Mishra, Sumant Batra, Dr Ira Bhaskar and Dr Richard Allen. The panel discussed the historical context, themes and inspirations behind the book, providing profound insights.
Rohit Arora, Vice President - North, THE Park Hotels, commenced the event with an introduction and later a panel discussion was held featuring the chief guests of the event, Priya Paul, Muzaffar Ali, Nawab Kazim Ali, Siddhartha Tagore and Dr Bhalla. They shared their perspectives on the cultural and historical significance of courtesans and how the book contributes to a deeper understanding of India's past and depiction of courtesans in the Indian Cinema.
The event drew a crowd of literature aficionados, guests, embassy officials, and media representatives.
