What would you comment upon the GOA hospitality market?
The Goa hospitality market has come a long way from the few hand full of so-called hotels to great top end resorts of today. We are now sporting practically every brand of a domestic and international brand. The market has grown extremely fast in this decade. Yet, the room tariffs have not been very encouraging to the entrepreneur. This is merely because of the steep rate undercutting. But this is just a part of the only way to survive. There is a big scope to improve if organised in a proper way by the respective authorities.
How do you face the competition?
Radisson Blue Cavelossim Goa is a signature of a warm-hearted team. It is known for its great charm and also the tasty food. There is always wow factor because of the personalized service it offers. This has been our motto to woo guests to our turf. Every function or wedding spreads a sweet word of mouth for onward business. We also clamp on new concepts and dynamics, with a versatile team. There is never a dull moment happening in the resort.
Brief us about the occupancy rate of the hotel?
We have been steady at an average occupancy of 80 perecnt for the year. We are looking to go a few notches higher but our aim is to move at higher room rates. As we know that moving to higher occupancies is very difficult in operations.
What are your future plans with the property?
In the coming monsoon season, we do intend adding around 30 more premium rooms and also planning for one more swimming pool. We are also in process of featuring as South Goa’s biggest banquet hall. Some of the existing rooms will be stripped and redone as brand new.
What are the major issues in the GOA hospitality market that you think should be worked upon?
The department should stop issuing new licenses and they should allow every hotel or resort to enjoy a good healthy occupancy. This way we can all provide a better service to the client and enjoy a better room rate. In this fashion even the quality of clients or tourists will improve which means more hygiene around and we can hope for a cleaner Goa.The tax factors should be more streamlined and customer friendly as Power tariffs are a killer, so also the failures. Shoot up in the diesel prices is way beyond budgets. A proper garbage collection and sewage treatment plants are a must for Goa’s future.
