A recent survey by IntrCity SmartBus reveals that 77 per cent of passengers consider in-bus washroom facilities essential for long-distance travel. Conducted among 10,000 travellers, the survey shows that cleanliness is a top priority, with 89 per cent of respondents emphasising its importance. The survey, conducted from November 1 to 13, included participants aged 18 to 60 travelling between major Indian cities.
The findings indicate that 45 per cent of travellers regularly undertake long-distance intercity journeys, with half needing washroom access at least once or twice during their trips. Moreover, 42 per cent of respondents are willing to pay more for buses that include washroom facilities, reflecting a shift towards prioritising comfort over cost.
Manish Rathi, Co-founder & CEO of IntrCity SmartBus, “At IntrCity SmartBus, our commitment to redefining long-distance bus travel extends beyond simply adding amenities—it’s about setting new standards that prioritise passenger comfort and convenience. Our recent survey findings validate our focus on enhancing the travel experience by making each journey as comfortable as possible. With in-bus washrooms across our fleet, we’re not just upgrading amenities; we’re addressing a fundamental need, particularly for women, families, and seniors. This facility allows passengers to travel with greater ease and peace of mind. Through this approach, we’re establishing a new benchmark in road travel, aligned with the evolving expectations of today’s passengers."
The survey also highlights the necessity for reliable cleanliness and water availability in washrooms, with 74 per cent of passengers stressing these needs. In response to these insights, IntrCity SmartBus has launched a hygiene campaign in partnership with Sirona, distributing complimentary hygiene kits to passengers on November 17 and 18.
