93 per cent of Generation Alpha and Generation Z in India actively influence family travel decisions, marking them as crucial decision-makers in the travel planning process

A recent Hilton 2025 trends report reveals that 93 per cent of Generation Alpha and Generation Z in India actively influence family travel decisions, marking them as crucial decision-makers in the travel planning process. With 89 per cent of these young travellers expecting to travel at least once a year, they view travel as a fundamental part of personal growth.

Ben George, Senior Vice President and Commercial Director, Asia Pacific, Hilton commented, “The growing influence of Generation Alpha on family travel signals a transformative shift in the travel industry - one that Hilton is excited to embrace. As these trends accelerate, we recognise the importance of adapting to evolving preferences. Hilton is set to exceed 1,000 hotels in APAC by 2025, and we’re focussed on creating new experiences to capture the imagination of this emerging generation and their families.”

The report highlights that sports events, music concerts, and outdoor activities are among the top motivations for travel for this demographic in 2025. Digital connectivity plays a significant role in their travel experiences, with Indian travellers spending up to four hours daily on devices during trips.

Family travel in India is increasingly shaped by the preferences of younger generations, with 76 per cent of Indian parents selecting destinations based on their children's interests. While young travellers influence activities and destinations, logistical aspects remain primarily handled by parents.

Cultural heritage is essential for Indian families, with many choosing to travel to connect with their roots. A significant percentage of young travellers view travel as a journey of self-discovery and learning. Moreover, 84 per cent consider it important for enhancing their education.

Looking ahead, sports events, music festivals, and nature experiences are expected to be major draws for travel. Indian Gen Alpha and Gen Z travellers are avid explorers, with a notable number averaging multiple trips yearly and expressing a desire to continue travelling.

Technology is central to their travel experience, with smartphones and other devices being essential for staying connected and sharing experiences. These young travellers are enthusiastic about both local and international destinations, showing an increasing interest in global adventures.

The report underscores a shift in family travel dynamics, with younger generations taking the lead in shaping travel experiences while still relying on their families for practical arrangements.
