From steel to suites

Dipti Ranjan Patnaik, Chairman, Atmosphere Hospitality, unveils ambitious plans to expand luxury resorts across the Asia Pacific region

With over four decades of experience in the steel and mining sectors behind him, Dipti Ranjan Patnaik took over the reins of Atmosphere Hospitality Pvt Ltd as its Chairman around a year back. “I’ve always been passionate about diversifying my business interests beyond the mining and steel industry. The burgeoning opportunities in the hotel sector, especially in India, motivated me to seek a strategic partnership. Atmosphere Core’s impressive setup in the Maldives and their innovative approach to guest services caught my attention, leading me to collaborate with them,” shares Patnaik. He now aims to drive the company’s expansion plans by setting up hotels and resorts across the Asia Pacific region.

Having gained invaluable insights and achieving significant success as an entrepreneur, Patnaik says his core business remains central to his endeavours and he continues to excel in this foundational sector. “The innovative concepts, exceptional setup and guest service excellence of the Atmosphere Group, combined with the leadership of Salil Panigrahi, Managing Director of Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts and Souvagya Mohapatra, Managing Director for India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan at Atmosphere Hotels and Resorts, greatly influenced my decision to establish Atmosphere Hospitality Private Limited.”

Potential profitability of a new project

When evaluating the potential profitability of a new property or project, the hotel group takes a strategic approach. “We are highly selective about the locations and destinations we choose for our properties. Connectivity with other regions is essential and we thoroughly consider tourism interests, cultural heritage and the unique character of each site to gauge feasibility and profitability,” explains Patnaik. He also emphasises on the importance of aligning with market trends. “We recognise the growing opportunities in the wedding and MICE segments in India. Our properties are strategically positioned to leverage these expanding markets and we are committed to providing a strong return on investment (ROI) for our investors and stakeholders, adhering to agreed timelines and industry standards,” he adds.
