WITH INDEPENDENCE Day approaching, Chef Akshay Nayyar of Kopper Kadai (Delhi & Bangalore) joined hands with The Akshaya Patra Foundation which operates the world’s largest NGO-run Mid-Day Meal Programme, to work on the Freedom from Hunger Campaign. Nayyar recently visited Akshaya Patra’s Vrindavan kitchen (one of the biggest kitchens in North India) and cooked for the students. The kitchen serves mid-day meals every day to more than 1.2 lakh students in 2000 schools in Vrindavan and Mathura. Every day, Akshaya Patra serves over 1.6 Million children from 13808 schools in 12 states through 31 kitchens across India.

During the visit, Nayyar said, “It’s an honour for me and my team to collaborate with The Akshaya Patra Foundation which works towards the noble cause of providing mid-day meals to students every day. By providing mid-day meals, they not only feed the kids but also motivate them, and give them a reason to be in school and study. My team and I feel privileged to cook in Vrindavan Kitchen where we have served food to more than 1.5 lakh students”.

Nayyar and the Kopper Kadai Delhi team cooked rice, kadi and chapatis in the base kitchen. Nayyar also shared the importance of healthy food and learning, with the children.

“We are happy to have Kopper Kadai Delhi Team and Chef Akshay Nayyar on board to spread the word about need of nutritious meals for underserved children, through his campaign #FreedomFromHunger. We are delighted to provide the platform and support him in his endeavour", said Shridhar Venkat, CEO, The Akshaya Patra Foundation.

“We feel extremely privileged to be a part of this activity where we served kids with hygienic food made by our team in Akshaya Patra kitchen. Apart from this, we are happy to collaborate with Akshaya Patra to run a digital campaign #FreedomFromHunger on our platforms along with Chef Akshay Nayyar”, says Devinder Vohra, Co-Owner, Kopper Kadai Delhi.
