Award-winning chef Chandra Mohan Arunasalam is bringing his magnificent culinary talent to Banyan Tree Phuket as Executive Chef. The Malaysian-born chef has prepared dishes for several 2-star and 3-star Michelin restaurants worldwide, where his remarkable gift for food presentation earned him the World Golden Chef award.
Throughout his career, Chef Chandra has demonstrated superb ability of bringing his own fresh perspective to traditional dishes and re-imagining them. Chandra’s arrival at Banyan Tree opens a new and exciting chapter in Phuket’s world of fine dining. Guests at TRE and other quality restaurants at the resort can experience Chef Chandra’s culinary touch through a selection of signature steaks and seafood; each prepared to perfection and topped with the finest garnish.
While preparing for his highly anticipated debut in Phuket, Chef Chandra took a moment to reflect on joining the Banyan Tree brand. “I am honoured to join this prestigious property,” he said, “and I would like to further establish Banyan Tree Phuket as a top culinary destination in Phuket.”
Chef Chandra’s culinary journey began in his hometown in Malaysia and continued on to England and Maldives. He then spent most of his career in America, including notable work at the 2 Michelin star Avenues Restaurant with Chef Curtis Duffy at The Peninsula Chicago.
He has also worked at several 3 Michelin star restaurants, alongside legendary American chefs such as Chef Thomas Keller at The French Laundry, Chef Charlie Trotter at his celebrated restaurant, Chef Grant Achatz at Alinea and Trio, and Chef Curtis Duffy at Grace Restaurant Chicago. Following his highly successful period in the United States, Chef Chandra returned home to join Hilton Kuala Lumpur as their Chef de Cuisine.
