Air India, following its merger with Vistara, has announced a new domestic route network to elevate passenger experiences on key metro-to-metro routes starting December 1, 2024. This strategic shift will deploy former Vistara A320-series aircraft featuring Business, Premium Economy, and Economy Class, catering to growing demand for premium, high-frequency services.
The services will cover five critical routes: Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Bengaluru, Delhi-Hyderabad, Mumbai-Bengaluru, and Mumbai-Hyderabad. Flights will operate with ‘AI’-prefixed four-digit numbers starting with ‘2’, like AI2999 on Delhi-Mumbai, ensuring consistency and ease of recognition. Air India will maintain high-frequency schedules, spreading departures throughout the day without reducing overall flight numbers, now exceeding 1,000 weekly trips across these routes.
The upgraded narrowbody aircraft offer eight Business Class seats with generous legroom and recline, 24 Premium Economy seats with enhanced comfort, and 132 Economy Class seats for a relaxed journey.
Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Air India, said: “The merger of Vistara into Air India has unlocked many new opportunities to improve our customer offering. By combining the strengths of both full-service carriers, we are able to consolidate our best narrowbody offering on routes where there is desire for a high-frequency, full-service product. We will progressively expand the coverage to more routes as Air India inducts new aircraft and completes the retrofit of our legacy narrowbody fleet during 2025.”
Passengers on these metro routes can enjoy perks like complimentary hot meals, lounge access, and seamless connections to international destinations, underscoring Air India’s commitment to delivering a superior flying experience. Bookings are now open across all Air India channels.
