The 3rd BW Hotelier’s Food and Beverages Conclave started with a boost up session with Riyaaz Amlani, President, National Restaurant Association of India, the session was moderated by Sourish Bhattacharyya, Consulting Editor, BW Hotelier at the Andaz Aerocity.
Amlani owned 17 sets of restaurants, has been dealing with highway liquor ban. How he has been coping up with it, when asked by Bhattacharyya, he replied, “there have been multiple problems that kept popping for us, highway ban being the black spot. The entire growth takes place across the highway, it is not possible to move the whole hotel.”
Amlani also spoke about his tenure with NRAI, “Three years ago when my tenure started. I was very much hopeful for the development in the hospitality industry. But I think it’s high time for the hospitality industry to come up together and focus on the 2020 agenda which says 20 million people will be employed in the industry.”
Amlani further added some of the official data comparing Spain and India. “According to the data, Spain gets 80 million of tourism that is ten times greater than the Indian graph. I think it is a great learning point for us. This shows how food and tourism are important for the growth.”
When asked upon his plans to challenge these notions, Amlani suggested, “Talking about the restaurant industry, soon it will be the highest tax contributor. Apart from waiting for the Government to come up with plans. It’s our work to unite and create a manifesto which can be pushed in every possible platform.”
The session ended with a common note on vouching for a common agenda, rallying together as an industry.
