In order to solidify its position as a global industry leader, UAE emerged as the top player in MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. As of 2024, the UAE commands a 50 per cent market share, valued at $5.62 billion, and is expected to grow at an 8.83 per cent CAGR, reaching $8.58 billion by 2029. Dubai's world-class event infrastructure and high-end tourism have bolstered its status as a MICE powerhouse.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are gaining prominence in the sector, with Riyadh hosting the upcoming Saudi Event Show (SES) on September 11-12, 2024. This event will bring together 4,500 industry professionals, showcasing the region's dynamic growth. Saudi Arabia’s MICE industry is projected to grow at a 9.49 per cent CAGR, from $2.38 billion in 2024 to $3.45 billion by 2029, driven by the country's economic transformation and enhanced infrastructure in key cities like Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam.
The Middle East's rise as a MICE destination is evident with events like Expo 2020, FIFA World Cup, and MDLBEAST Soundstorm, which have significantly contributed to tourism, job creation, and infrastructure development. The region is expected to see its events market reach $76.67 billion by 2028, further cementing its role in global economic and cultural transformation.
“SES 2024 is a highly popular venue for events industry professionals from all over the GCC, from organisers, entertainment professionals, creative specialists and operations experts to event technology and solution providers, regulators and other stakeholders. It offers them a unique chance to meet and shape the future of the events industry in the Middle East and beyond. Indeed, we are inviting delegates to not just attend—but to be a part of the story,” said Amar Daginawala, Exhibition Director of the Saudi Event Show.
This large expansion across MENA underscores the region's role as a global leader in the events and MICE sector, with Dubai, Doha, and now Saudi Arabia, at the forefront of this transformation.
