Tourism Malaysia celebrates 67th Independence Day

Tourism Malaysia has unveiled its strategic roadmap for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 aiming to attract tourists and generate revenue

As Malaysia marks its 67th Independence Day, also known as Merdeka Day and Hari Kebangsaan, Tourism Malaysia celebrates the nation’s remarkable journey of growth, unity, and progress. With a rich cultural heritage, diverse population, and a strong economy, the nation stands as a beacon of progress in the region. It has made significant strides in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and tourism, becoming a key player on the global stage.

“In these 67 years of independence, Malaysia has not only preserved its rich cultural heritage but has also embraced modernity and innovation. As we celebrate Merdeka Day, we honour the spirit of unity and determination that has driven our nation forward. Malaysia’s vibrant tourism sector is a testament to our nation’s ability to welcome and enchant visitors from all over the world,” said Ahmad Johanif Mohd Ali, Director, Tourism Malaysia, New Delhi.

Malaysia’s tourism industry has flourished over the years, drawing millions of visitors annually. Known for its stunning landscapes, diverse culture, and warm hospitality, the country offers an array of experiences that cater to every type of traveller. As part of the nation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its tourism sector, Tourism Malaysia has unveiled its strategic roadmap for Visit Malaysia Year 2026. This initiative aims to attract 35.6 million tourists and generate RM 147.1 billion in receipts, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a top global destination. The strategy focuses on creating demand, increasing traffic, and prioritising key target markets, ensuring Malaysia continues to shine on the international stage.

Noriah Jaafar, Director, Tourism Malaysia, Mumbai, stated, “Malaysia’s tourism industry has grown exponentially, contributing significantly to our economy and enhancing our global reputation. Our country offers a unique blend of traditional and contemporary attractions, making it a must-visit destination for travellers seeking diverse experiences. As we celebrate Merdeka Day, we look forward to welcoming even more visitors from India to experience the magic of Malaysia.”

In honour of Merdeka Day, Tourism Malaysia is hosting a quiz contest on social media, running from August 27 to August 31. The contest invites participants to test their knowledge on a range of topics, including Malaysia’s historical milestones, landmarks, influential leaders, national symbols, and modern achievements.
