Taj hosts Sir Pratap Singh Polo Cup in New Delhi

The championship paid tribute to Maharaja Sir Pratap Singh, a visionary figure who played a pivotal role in modernising polo in India

Taj New Delhi  hosted the Sir Pratap Singh Polo Cup at the historic Jaipur Polo Grounds, celebrating India’s rich polo heritage. This year’s event, a collaboration between Taj’s Living Legacies initiative, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur, and Taj Palace, New Delhi, highlighted the brand’s dedication to preserving India’s traditions. The championship paid tribute to Maharaja Sir Pratap Singh, a visionary figure who played a pivotal role in modernising polo in India.  

The grand occasion began with the legendary Mehrangarh band welcoming dignitaries, including His Highness Maharaja Gajsingh Ji II of Marwar-Jodhpur and Lt Gen VM Bhuvana Krishnan, Quarter Master General of the Indian Army. They arrived in a ceremonial convoy led by thoroughbreds, alongside Taj’s Managing Director and CEO, Puneet Chhatwal.

This event embodies the spirit of Jodhpur’s equestrian heritage and our commitment to conserving India’s cultural traditions and preserving the grand palaces, including the magnificent Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur through ‘Living Legacies of Taj’,” the CEO said.

The match saw Jaipur Delta triumph over Vimal Arion Achievers with a final score of 7-5, claiming the coveted Sir Pratap Singh Polo Cup. The four-chukker tournament seamlessly combined the elegance of polo with exquisite culinary and cultural experiences curated by Taj Palace, New Delhi.  

Guests were treated to a curated menu featuring global dishes, traditional Jodhpur delicacies, and seasonal creations Taj is known for. The event attracted an elite gathering, including Padma Bhushan awardee Sharmila Tagore, Moon Moon Sen, Raima Sen, and ambassadors from various countries.  

The evening concluded with an electrifying live jazz performance by Naquita and Rynosax, leaving attendees with memories of a truly regal celebration of India’s equestrian and cultural heritage.
