Taj Group All Set to Launch Gateway Hotel in Theog

THE TAJ group, is all set to launch a new property in Theog, Himachal Pradesh around April, 2018. The property is going to be the 39th property in the Gateway Hotel and Resorts portfolio in India.

Commenting on the launch, Jitendra Singh Lote, General Manager, Taj Theog Resort and SPA, Shimla, said, “The hotel is 30 kms from Shimla and Theog is actually the gateway to the high Himalayas, from where one can also go to Narkanda. It is the only hotel constructed at 8000 ft in India. You could see apple orchards along the road as well as cherry and plum trees as you go higher.”

Lote also said that as an experience based hotel the new property will have a lot of treks and trails for guests to use. “We take our guest to Hatu Peak which is 12000 ft above sea level, at the foot of which is the heart for apple country in Himachal,” he added.

The hotel built on a hilltop close to Theog and spread over 5 acres. Besides an all-day dining restaurant, the hotel proposes to have a specialty restaurant, a bar, spa, banqueting, conferencing and meeting facilities that will cater to resident and nonresident guest requirements.

According to Lote, constructing the hotel at 8000 ft was not easy and took around five years to complete. Speaking about pricing, he said, “we haven’t fixed rates for the hotel as we are opening in April, but it will be around Rs 20,000 to 25,000 CP plus taxes.”

Lote added that, “most of the check ins happen in the evening, after which we do a high tea for guest and appraise them with what they can do on day one and day two.”

Theog has had a major influence on the F&B department, Lote said, “We have formed the F&B section separately so that it doesn’t disturb the rooms. Also to keep the authenticity of the Himalayan food, we have Himachal-based Suman Dadwal.”
