In a move to elevate Goa's tourism sector, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte recently held a meeting with Union Minister for Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Accompanied by Tourism Secretary, Sanjeev Ahuja, and Director of Tourism, Suneel Anchipaka, the discussion focussed on transformative initiatives, including Goa's leading adoption of ‘Regenerative Tourism’, an approach that emphasises sustainable practices to preserve and restore natural ecosystems while promoting tourism.
The central theme of the meeting was to enhance Goa's international connectivity. Khaunte emphasised the need to enhance Goa’s global accessibility by increasing direct international flights and establishing stronger connections with major global cities. He argued that improved connectivity is vital for attracting more international tourists, thereby solidifying Goa's reputation as a world-class destination.
Another significant aspect of the discussion was the fast-tracking of the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme for the Basilica of Bom Jesus. This iconic heritage site is set to play a key role in an upcoming major exposition in Goa, expected to draw global attention. Minister Khaunte highlighted the importance of aligning the PRASHAD project’s completion with this event to enhance the spiritual and cultural experience for visitors, thereby boosting Goa’s tourism appeal.
Khaunte also sought continued support from the central government to bolster Goa’s tourism infrastructure and promotional efforts. Both ministers underscored the need for collaborative efforts to position Goa as a world-class tourist destination. Additionally, the Goa Tourism Minister sought continued and robust support from the central government to further develop the state's tourism infrastructure and promotional efforts. The Union Tourism Minister assured that the Centre would extend full support to maximise the impact of the upcoming initiatives, ensuring that Goa continues to thrive as a top choice for travellers worldwide.
