Novotel Chennai Sipcot rings in with annual Cake Mixing Ceremony

The ceremony celebrated tradition, with participants blending a mix of dried fruits, nuts, spices, and liqueurs to prepare the base for the hotel’s Christmas plum cakes

Novotel Chennai Sipcot hosted its annual cake mixing ceremony, led by Executive Chef Subin Mecheri and his culinary team, the event was filled with laughter and warmth as guests donned aprons, rolled up their sleeves, and eagerly joined in the cake mixing ritual.

The ceremony celebrated tradition, with participants blending a mix of dried fruits, nuts, spices, and liqueurs to prepare the base for the hotel’s Christmas plum cakes. After the cake mixing, guests enjoyed a high tea spread featuring a selection of treats and warm beverages, providing a relaxing setting for families to connect and savour the moment. Kenneth Rocha, Novotel Chennai Sipcot’s Learning & Development Manager, emceed the event and shared the history behind the tradition. Originating in the 17th century to celebrate the harvest season, cake mixing was a way to prepare for Christmas by preserving fruits for plum cakes, the classic holiday dessert.
