Marriott Executive Apartments Navi Mumbai celebrates World Environment Day

Marriott Executive Apartments Navi Mumbai spearheaded a cleanup and plantation initiative at the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary on June 5, 2024, on World Environment Day. This initiative reflects the city's vibrant spirit, where flamingos hold a pivotal role in tourism. Known as one of Asia's largest mangrove patch spanning 26 kilometers, the northern part of which is designated as the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary by the Government of Maharashtra, this area hosts significant flamingo populations and various migratory bird species. Collaborating with the Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Centre, Marriott Executive Apartments Navi Mumbai planted 258 saplings and cleaned the wetlands to preserve this distinctive ecosystem, combat climate change and raise awareness on environmental conservation.

Speaking on this occasion, Saurabh Chowdhury, General Manager of Marriott Executive Apartments Navi Mumbai said, “We are honoured to play an active role in fostering awareness and supporting environmental sustainability. Recognising the significance of flamingos to Navi Mumbai, we partnered with the Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Centre, Airoli, an initiative of the Mangrove Foundation of Maharashtra, India for a cleanup and plantation drive, aiming to nurture a welcoming habitat for these majestic birds. Emphasizing the significance of mangrove conservation becomes even more critical, particularly in safeguarding these ecosystems from the adverse impacts of global warming.”

The efforts today proved fruitful in creating awareness about the importance of Mangrove ecosystem, contributing to Biodiversity conservation and empowering with useful methods to restore the habitat.
