Malaysia Airlines and IndiGo have officially launched a strategic codeshare partnership, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in April 2024. This collaboration aims to enhance connectivity and improve the travel experience between key hubs in Malaysia and India.
Under the partnership, Malaysia Airlines will extend its reach across India by adding its “MH” flight code to seven domestic routes operated by IndiGo. These include Kolkata, Varanasi, Patna, Tiruchirappalli, Goa, Bhubaneswar, and Visakhapatnam. This expansion builds upon Malaysia Airlines' existing direct routes to 10 key Indian cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai, offering passengers more travel options.
Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo, said, “It is indeed a delightful moment for us at IndiGo to formalise this codeshare partnership with Malaysia Airlines. This strategic alliance is a testament to our commitment to bridging the skies between India and Malaysia, unlocking unparalleled connectivity and convenience for our customers in both countries. The partnership will offer increased accessibility, to explore the unique and enriching experience that the country has to offer. This collaboration not only expands travel options for our customers but also strengthens the cultural and economic ties between the two nations. At IndiGo, we remain steadfast in our mission to provide hassle-free travel experiences, and this collaboration underscores our dedication to that promise.”
Conversely, IndiGo will include its “6E” flight code on Malaysia Airlines’ domestic routes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1, covering destinations like Penang, Langkawi, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching. This arrangement aims to provide more flexibility for travellers, making it easier for them to explore Malaysia’s diverse offerings. The partnership is expected to provide seamless travel experiences, opening up new opportunities for both business and leisure travellers between the two countries.
