Madhya Pradesh's Department of Archaeology, Archives, and Museums is observing World Heritage Week from November 19 to 25, 2024, through various activities aimed at celebrating the state's cultural and historical heritage. On November 19, a lecture series was held at the State Museum in Bhopal, drawing heritage enthusiasts and scholars.
The event began with a welcome address by Commissioner Urmila Shukla, who emphasised efforts to modernise the promotion of the state’s archaeological resources. Initiatives discussed included the publication of guides for museums, digitisation of collections, WhatsApp ticket booking, and 3D art viewing experiences to improve public engagement.
The lecture series featured presentations from renowned speakers, including Dr Umashankar Pachauri, who spoke about the role of archaeology in cultural identity and encouraged youth involvement in heritage preservation. Dr Rajendra Yadav highlighted the responsibilities of state governments in protecting archaeological sites, emphasising both tangible and intangible heritage. Dr Chetanya Saxena compared India’s monuments to global wonders, asserting their unparalleled significance.
The event also included a photo exhibition of India's ancient monuments and a quiz focussed on historical sites, aimed at fostering awareness and interest in heritage among younger audiences. The celebrations reflect Madhya Pradesh's commitment to preserving its history while leveraging modern technology for future appreciation.
