Hungary is gearing up to host Europe’s biggest fireworks display on August 20, 2024, marking the country's founding and celebrating St Stephen's Day, dedicated to Hungary’s first king, St Stephen of the Arpad dynasty. This annual event, one of Hungary’s most significant celebrations, promises a visual spectacle and a wide array of cultural activities, drawing in both locals and tourists alike.
The fireworks display, stretching long kilometres along the Danube from Petofi Bridge to the southern end of Margaret Island, will feature over 45,000 pyrotechnic effects. These fireworks will be launched from three bridges—Liberty, Elisabeth, and Margaret—ensuring a breathtaking view from both banks of the river. Additionally, the Parliament building will be illuminated with a stunning light show. Safety remains paramount, with all fireworks EU-certified and controlled digitally to ensure the highest safety standards.
Beyond this, the festivities offer a rich cultural experience. In the city centre, the Csárda Festival on the Pest side will showcase Hungarian cuisine, while Hungarian Flavors Street on the Buda side will feature traditional dishes from the Carpathian Basin.
