The second day of the eighth edition of the prestigious BW Hotelier Indian Hospitality Summit & Awards (IHA 2024) hosted the BWH Visionaries Roundtable with moderator Rattan Keswani, Author, Independent Consultant; erstwhile Deputy MD, Lemon Tree Hotels Ltd and erstwhile President, Trident Hotels including panellists KB Kachru, Chairman - South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group and Ajay K Bakaya, Managing Director, Sarovar Hotels and Director, Louvre Hotels India. They discussed the topic of building a vision for future-proof hospitality in India.
Kachru stated, “There’s nothing that is future proof, what worked well yesterday hasn’t necessarily worked well today and what is working today might not work tomorrow. We need to continue to evolve and work on things, which will make us do things that are right.”
Bakaya added, “Future ready is more appropriate than future-proof. For the future we have to do what we haven’t done so far. I would hope that we can hold our government bodies to greater accountability.”
Kachru emphasised the importance of talent development in the hospitality industry, he stated, “We need to work very closely on talent development and positioning of hospitality. I am glad the whole world has acknowledged what hospitality can do and what we can offer to the economy. We need to ensure that we get the right people at the right place and at the right time.”
Bakaya regarding the skill development issue further noted, “Firstly, the shortage of people is at the grassroot level, we need more people to make beds and serve tables. Secondly, we are still in the heavily tiered structure where you need to have a manager of everything.”
