Both the symbol of love – Taj Mahal and Prambanan – have been signed as part of an agreement between PT Taman Wisata Candi (TWC), Indonesian public enterprise administering Indonesian World Heritage Sites of Borobudur, Prambanan and Keraton Ratu Boko, and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), to mutually promote the two World Heritage sites – Prambanan, the tallest and the most beautiful Hindu temple in Jakarta, and Taj Mahal in Agra.

Speaking at the agreement signing ceremony held in Indonesian Embassy, Edy Setijono, President Director, TWC said that both the heritage monuments share the “common story of love” behind them and therefore make sense to join the ‘World Heritage Twin Programme’. He also informed that Indonesia has identified 10 World Heritage sites based on the 2017 TripAdvisor world’s best World Heritage sites for the Twin programme for mutual promotion.

The Programme is being promoted by display of banners on prominent sites near the two monuments.

Also present at the event was Rakesh Singh Lal, Additional Director General, ASI who spoke about how the broad guidelines of the agreement are being worked out, and would consider tickets on concessional rates for guests who visited one of the monuments while visiting the other site.

Sidharto R Suryodipuro, Indonesian Ambassador to India, who was also present at the signing of the agreement, observed that it is another step in strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
