TAJ LAKE Palace, Udaipur has been voted the Best Hotel in
Asia and the Indian Sub-Continent by the readers of the UK’s Conde Nast
Traveller magazine at the 2016 Readers’ Travel Awards. Taj Lake Palace was also
ranked 6th on the World’s Top 20 across categories – the only Indian hotel to
be included in this category.
Originally built in 1746 as the pleasure palace of Maharana
Jagat Singh II, Taj Lake Palace is one of the most recognisable residences in
the world. It was built with gleaming white marble on a central island in the
stunning Lake Pichola; its romantic location affords breathtaking panoramic
views towards the City Palace and Aravalli Hills. Every room has the elegant
touches that evoke the best of the past, and its sumptuous suites have regal
histories of their own from the dynasties of the Mewar.
Guests can relax in the palace’s secluded courtyards
complete with serene lily ponds and cooling fountains or drink in the views
from its many terraces just as the royal families have done for centuries. On a
Gangaur cruise, in the antique ceremonial imperial barge of the house of Mewar,
guests can sip cocktails by candle light under a canopy of stars. Heritage
walks, shopping trips accompanied by a royal butler, spa treatments inspired by
the palace’s own regal history and authentic Rajput cuisine at the palace
restaurants offer guests an authentic tastes of the culture and traditions of
regal Rajasthan.
