SriLankan Airlines has been honoured with the Gold Award in the Marketing-Carrier category at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold Awards 2024. The award was presented at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand, on 28 August 2024.
The "Colours of Jaffna" campaign is an initiative, marking the only Sri Lankan entity focussing a marketing campaign exclusively on the island's vibrant northern region. Launched to coincide with CNN's recent designation of Jaffna as one of Asia's most underrated destinations, the campaign has been celebrated for its creativity and effectiveness. The campaign reached over 14 million people on social media, with more than 500,000 engagements, making it one of the most successful in the airline's history. Complementing the promotional drive, SriLankan Holidays, the airline’s leisure arm, introduced a series of holiday packages showcasing the best of Jaffna, with Jetwing Hotels as the exclusive hospitality partner. Notably, Jetwing Hotels was the other PATA award recipient from Sri Lanka, honoured in the prestigious “Climate Change Initiative” category.
SriLankan Airlines, Head of Marketing, Saminda Perera said, “ I take this opportunity to thank the encouragement and support extended to us by the management, our valued partners and my team, without whom this will never be a possibility. Time after time, we have endeavoured to present Sri Lanka in novel perspectives, and it gives us a great pleasure to be affirmed that our efforts are recognized by the industry fraternity and the travellers alike.”
The campaign beautifully captures Jaffna's rich heritage, striking architecture, and vibrant cultural and culinary traditions. Centred around the historic Nallur Kandaswamy Festival, the campaign's visuals showcase the city's colourful temples, waterfronts, and historic sites, inviting travellers to experience Jaffna in its most glorious form.
