SOI 56: Thai street food takes a seat at DoubleTree by Hilton Gurgaon

Different cities of Thailand are impeccably known for their street-food and it is a quintessential part of experience when visiting the country. One can find stands and street vendors along the streets, in markets (day and night), as well as in temples where you can enjoy the various local dishes and snacks.

Embracing this food culture of Thailand at its Asia Alive restaurant, DoubleTree by Hilton Gurgaon-New Delhi NCR began its Thai Street Food Feast recently where the guests can experience a soiree of scintillating and exceeding authentic street flavours of Thailand. Styling the restaurant as streets of Thailand with Thai décor, SOI 56 exposes guests to an eccentric event that unfolds a lively and communal nature of Thailand.

The General Manager of the hotel, Rajat Tuli, shared with BWH that he wanted to capitalise on Thai being one of the most popular South-East Asian cuisine in India. He said, “Whenever I have travelled to Thailand, my memories are more of street food than fine dine restaurant. And I feel that everyone has some or other memories of street food, be it satay or pad Thai station, of Thailand. So, instead of doing a cliché fine-dine Thai, we thought to pick up a street concept of Thai and recreate that to give a unique experience to guests.”

On the first day of the fest, the restaurant was up to 70 per cent occupied and that made the GM optimistic about the future response. He also told us that when they started promoting about SOI 56 on social media, the hotel received a flurry of query calls and people confirmed their bookings for upcoming days of the fest.

Guests stepping out to experience the SOI 56 fest can taste a selection of Thai street flavours from coconut, Thai salad, dimsum, ice kachnag, grill and wok station. While curating the menu, Ramesh Kukreti, Executive Chef of the hotel, had to override a few hurdles, he shared, “Gurgaon as city is home to consumers who have an appreciation for authentic cuisines from all parts of the world. We decided to give them a taste of Thailand's most craved culinary experience the famous Thai Street food. After several rounds experimentation, I believe that the team has done justice in presenting some of the famous delicacies from the streets of Thailand.” The chef also told us that he enjoyed preparing Ping Yang Thiy (Thai grill live counter).
