Hindware, a prominent name in bathroom solutions in India, is making significant strides in its mission to empower girls through the "Build a Toilet, Build her Future" campaign. Initiated in November 2020 as part of the #HygieneThatEmpowers initiative, the brand has been actively engaged in constructing toilets in schools across various states in India, especially in remote areas. With a focus on addressing the issue of girls dropping out of school due to inadequate sanitation facilities, the campaign has successfully built over 300 toilets in government schools.
The lack of proper sanitation and toilets has been a significant factor leading to a 23 per cent dropout rate among girls upon reaching puberty. In response to this pressing challenge, Hindware has been raising awareness about the importance of hygiene and sanitation. The brand has implemented a comprehensive media strategy, utilising TV, radio, social media, and a dedicated website to spread awareness and educate the public on World Toilet Day.
Sudhanshu Pokhriyal, CEO of Bath and Tiles Business at Hindware Limited, highlighted the transformative impact of the initiative, stating, "At Hindware, our commitment is to bring about positive change in rural communities across India. We firmly believe that ensuring proper sanitation is crucial for every girl's access to education. Our journey towards improving sanitation began in 2016–17, and we take pride in continuing this transformative path. By providing essential facilities, we aim not only to elevate sanitation standards but also to champion education and the overall well-being of girls. This initiative is a significant step towards creating a healthier and more equitable future for all."
Hindware has collaborated with MA My Anchor, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the welfare of the underprivileged, in its efforts to promote girl child education. The brand has also contributed to the promotion of better sanitation by donating toilet seats to numerous NGOs and trusts over the years.
Arunima Yadav, CMO of Hindware Limited, remarked on the significance of World Toilet Day, stating, "Our campaign aligns perfectly with the importance of this day to ensure accessible and hygienic sanitation facilities in rural regions for girls. We are proud of the impact we've made so far in empowering girls and will continue with our mission to ensure proper sanitation and toilets in schools for the coming years."
