Goa’s tourism sector has shown a strong recovery, with the Department of Tourism, Goa, reporting over 8 million domestic visitors in 2023. This surge has surpassed pre-pandemic figures, highlighting Goa's continued appeal as a leading travel destination in India. The state has also seen a significant increase in international tourist arrivals, reaching 450,000 this year as global travel restrictions eased.
Despite limited international flight connections, the government is actively working to enhance Goa’s accessibility. Talks are underway with the central government to improve international air routes and expand seat allocations, which would also allow more foreign travellers to access the state directly.
As part of its efforts to remain a top destination for diverse travellers, Goa has launched several initiatives to increase visitor safety and comfort. These include the ‘Pink Force’ programme, designed to ensure women’s safety, and the tourist helpline (1364), which provides on-demand assistance to visitors. In addition, the Beach Vigil App has been introduced to enhance safety along Goa’s popular beaches, attracting positive responses from both domestic and international guests.
Goa’s appeal continues to extend beyond beach tourism, with a rise in destination weddings and MICE events, drawing top corporate brands. International arrivals are further supported by charter flights from major markets, including Moscow, London, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. A new Polish charter is expected to begin service on November 8, 2024, marking another boost in overseas connectivity.
The Department of Tourism has also introduced the ‘Ekadasha Teertha Circuit,’ a project blending ecotourism with Goa's spiritual heritage, aligning with the state’s focus on Regenerative Tourism. This initiative emphasises sustainable practices and aims to preserve Goa's natural and cultural landscapes, prioritising quality tourism over sheer visitor numbers.
Additionally, partnerships with international travel platforms like Agoda, MakeMyTrip, and Airbnb are in place to enhance Goa's visibility globally and facilitate foreign tourist access.
