THE THIRD BW Hotelier Smart Hotels conclave and expo, 2017, held at The Park, New Delhi on September 26th witnessed some dignitaries of the hospitality industry.
This year several General Managers, Chief Engineers, Purchase Managers, as well as executive housekeepers met at the common platform to analyse the new ideas being presented at this platform moving together towards the smarter idea.
In the keynote address named ‘Chasing the Green Dream: What My Experience as Serial Hotel Builder Has Taught Me About Energy Conversation Technologies’, Ashish Jakhanwala, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, SAMHI Hotels gave a message on his understanding of Smart Hotels.
Jakhanwala started his speech by giving emphasis on sustainability by saying to make the hotel smart, the first most important thing to be taken care of is sustainability. He feels that the hospitality sector should have its own target by 2020, 40 per cent of the energy should come from the renewable resources.
“I also feel that our industry is relatively weak in terms of data and analytics. We need to bring in a lot of them to understand our own business. Secondly, we also need to catch up on internet of things (IOT), sensors and robotics to get smarter,” stated Jakhanwala.
Jakhanwala ended his addressing note with a positive hope of utilising the best that we have: customer’s time, customer’s space and its content. “If we do not try and triangulate, how can we form a more robust business model by using that privileged access. I think this industry is losing an opportunity for something else to come from outside, capitalise and create a multi billionaire company, he concluded.
