Bringing Alive the History of Mysore

The city of Mysore with its majestic palace, beautiful handicrafts and mouth-watering cuisine has a new hotel which aims to cater to both the business and the leisure traveller. The 146-room Grand Mercure, AccorHotels 38th hotel in India, in association with Brigade Group, was launched among much fanfare at Mysore in the last week of April.

“Bringing stories to life” is the tagline of the Grand Mercure brand and at the hotel steps have been taken to bring alive Mysore’s great history and tradition. So you have wooden toys from Channapatna, decorating the rooms while pictures of the palace and prints of the famous Mysore silk sarees adorn the walls of the common areas.

The hotel has five categories of rooms with the deluxe rooms being the basic. The topmost category is the deluxe suite with attached balcony. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with rooms on the higher floors having a good view.

In terms of F&B, there is the multi-cuisine all-day diner La Uppu, a reference to the French and Indian connection of the hotel. Uppu is salt in Kannadiga. The restaurant serves both a la carte and buffet. On the menu is a vast international selection along with local delicacies.

The rooftop restaurant, By the Blue, hasn’t become operational yet but will open soon. It is a specialty north Indian restaurant that will serve Awadhi, Mughlai, Punabi and Kashmiri cuisine.

There is also a small bar, Silk Bar, that will serve cocktails and hard liquor, once the liquor licence comes into place.

A small delicatessen called Deli Shop at the lobby has an enticing selection of bakery and confectionary creations. Plans are on to offer specialty coffee from nearby coffee plantations in Coorg.

The hotel is ideally located at Sayaji Rao Road that witnesses the world-famous Dushhera procession. One of the highlights of the hotel is the gallery on the roof from where guests will get an aerial view of the procession.

The hotel has a 2150 sq ft banquet hall and two meeting rooms ideal for small conferences. For relaxation there is a swimming pool, a gym and a spa that will become operational soon.

Grand Mercure Mysore is definitely worth staying in if you are visiting Mysore either for leisure or business. The staff is warm and friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make your stay more comfortable.
