Amit Chowdhury to be Exececutive Chef of Taj Mahal Palace, Apollo Bunder Mumbai

He takes over some of the responsibilities held by Chef Hemant Oberoi, as you may recall from an earlier story BW Hotelier broke this year, is all set to retire come March 31, 2015. However, as we had expected, Chef Oberoi, will continue to work with the group. He will be taking a more consultative role and be based out of the corporate office. Chef Amit Chowdhury has been with the Taj Group of Hotels since 1985, as a recent graduate from the Dadar Catering College. He was Executive Chef first at the Princeton in Dubai’which was part of the Taj group at that time’in 1996. He then did a two-year stint at Taj Coral Reef, Maldives, before heading the Kitchen at Taj Mahal Hotel at Mansingh Road, Delhi in 2002. Chowdhury’s position is being filled by Chef Arun Sunderaraj, who was the Executive Chef at the Taj Falaknuma Palace. -Chef Sunderaraj joined Taj as a trainee before becoming a Junior Sous Chef in 1997. He became the Executive Chef of Taj Exotica, Goa in 2008, before shifting to the Taj Falaknuma in Hyderabad, his posting just before his transfer to Taj Mahal Hotel, Mansingh Road, New Delhi.
