Airbnb India’s Estimated Direct Economic Impact Reaches $150 Million in Just One Year

AIRBNB TODAY announced the findings of its latest survey based on analysis of internal data, highlighting optimistic growth and direct economic impact for Hosts in India and around the globe. The findings revealed that in India alone, the Airbnb had an estimated direct economic impact of approximately $150 million in one year. Moreover, Airbnb Hosts collectively earned almost $28 million and welcomed approximately 800K guests in 2018.

Unlike other business models that benefit from the earnings generated of communities, Airbnb activity directly benefits the communities that Hosts call home. On average, Airbnb guests say 42 per cent of their spending occurs in the neighbourhood where they stay. Guests in India, on an average, spent $61 on a daily basis with total estimated guest spends for the year at 120 million.

“Our people-powered community thrives on the success of both stakeholders. While we strive to give travellers truly unique, tailored travel experiences, Airbnb is also empowering people to monetize their homes and passions to become hospitality entrepreneurs, across the country and around the world. To achieve economic stability by leveraging your passions is truly a unique phenomenon and we are proud to enable a wave of entrepreneurs to do the same,” said, Amanpreet Bajaj, Country Manager, Airbnb India.

At a global level, Airbnb’s Host and guest community generated over $100 billion in estimated direct economic impact across 30 countries in 2018. Since Airbnb was founded, Hosts have earned over $65 billion that many uses to pay the bills and pursue their passions.
