Here was a challenge that quickly escalated into what felt like a Herculean task for us, accustomed as we have been to the city life. After a seven-hour drive from Delhi to Rishikesh, interrupted by countless stops due to the rush of devotees heading for the Char Dham Yatra, we were told to descend 300 steps to reach the riverbed of the holy Ganga, and then climb another 200 steps to reach our destination – ONENESS Rishikesh Ganga Kinare. But believe me, it was worth the effort! Oh! Forgot to mention that one needs to cross Ganga on a raft. Though it takes around 10 minutes from one shore to the other, it is an experience in itself.
Once there, you seem to forget the pain experienced a few minutes back. ONENESS Rishikesh Ganga Kinare is a sanctuary of Nature, luxury and sustainability – a place where the wild meets the serene, where guests can disconnect from the bustle of daily life and reconnect with the beauty of the earth.
Nestled in the serene Lower Shivalik mountain valley, just 30 km from the vibrant town of Rishikesh, ONENESS Rishikesh Ganga Kinare is where the untamed beauty of the wild meets the tranquility of luxury, offering a retreat where the rhythms of the river, flora and fauna come together to create an unforgettable experience.
ONENESS is surrounded by a rich and diverse ecosystem, with the mountains and the sacred Ganges river gently cradling the resort. The landscape is alive with lush sal, haldu, fig and mulberry trees, providing a vibrant habitat for various species of wildlife, including playful monkeys, langurs, elusive wild cats and even the rare Black Bear. The colourful Scarlet Minivet adds to the natural beauty, making every moment here a celebration of life.
“A core principle at ONENESS is our commitment to ecology and sustainability. The resort’s green credentials are evident in the planting of over 30,000 saplings of more than 50 medicinal plants, enriching the environment and fostering biodiversity. With the holy Ganges flowing below, echoing the spiritual energy of Devprayag, ONENESS becomes more than just a destination; it becomes an experience deeply intertwined with Nature and spirituality,” says owner Tarun Gulati, Director, Himalayan Hotels.
Luxury redefined: A tranquil haven
At ONENESS, luxury takes on a new meaning. The Luxury Cottages offer an extraordinary blend of comfort and natural beauty. Designed to immerse guests in the landscape, each cottage features spacious, elegantly appointed rooms with stunning views of the surrounding gardens and mountains. Every detail, from the furnishings to the ambiance, has been thoughtfully curated to create a retreat that’s as peaceful as it is beautiful.
Immersive experiences for all
ONENESS is a place to experience as guests can partake in a wide range of inclusive activities, from relaxing on the riverbank to stargazing under a blanket of stars. For the younger guests, there are fun-filled kid activities, ensuring families create lasting memories together. For those seeking something unique, there are chargeable experiences like the Fun Family Float and Memory Plantation, both of which provide opportunities to connect with Nature in truly special ways.
Celebrating Nature through design
At the heart of ONENESS, two remarkable structures stand out, each telling a unique story of vision and craftsmanship. The reception area, designed to be warm and inviting, sets the tone for your stay, encouraging guests to connect with the surrounding natural beauty. However, it is the bamboo hall that truly steals the spotlight – a stunning, multi-purpose space that functions as both a restaurant and a yoga hall. Inspired by the flowing waves of the Ganges, the design of the bamboo hall is a true work of art.
Choosing bamboo as the primary material was a conscious decision, reflecting the commitment to sustainability and environmental mindfulness. From delicate eucalyptus sticks to sturdy balcuba bamboos, every piece of bamboo has been meticulously handcrafted, creating a structure that is both functional and beautiful. The process of bending bamboo is intricate, and each piece is carefully shaped using a chemical process to ensure strength and durability,” says Gulati, adding, “This bamboo hall is not just a building; it’s a testament to the skill and dedication of the Jans Bamboo team, whose vision brought this iconic structure to life.”
After spending two days immersed in the beauty of Nature, we knew we had to face the challenge once again – something we weren’t particularly looking forward to, especially after the journey we had experienced on our way to the property. But in the end, it was all worth it. Every moment spent at ONENESS Rishikesh, by the banks of the Ganga, was an unforgettable experience. And we will surely be back soon!
