IndiGo has inducted 77 female pilots into its Airbus and ATR fleet in celebration of the 77th Independence Day, marking a significant advance in diversity within the aviation sector. This induction includes 72 pilots in the Airbus fleet and 5 in the ATR fleet, emphasising IndiGo's commitment to the #GirlPower ethos and its mission for diversity, equality, and inclusion.
Captain Ashim Mitra, Senior Vice President at IndiGo, commented, "We are delighted to announce the landmark induction of 77 female pilots into our Airbus and ATR fleet. At IndiGo, we have always promoted a workplace that thrives on diversity and inclusivity. We acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contributions made by women at IndiGo, not just for their technical prowess but also as inspirational leaders within our organisation. We firmly believe that diversity and inclusion are not just integral to our core values, but they are also key drivers of innovation and growth. We pledge to continue upholding these values in all our endeavours."
To further support female pilots, IndiGo has implemented life cycle initiatives allowing those with children under five years old to opt for reduced flying contracts. This effort aims to improve the gender ratio in cockpit crews and foster a more inclusive aviation industry, with IndiGo currently leading globally at around 14 per cent women pilots, compared to a worldwide average of seven to nine per cent.
