ATOAI to Clean Up Stok Village in J&K Under Adopt a Heritage Project

Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with Ministry of Culture and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) launched Adopt a Heritage project in September 2017 to preserve rich cultural and natural heritage and to promote tourism across length and breadth of the country. Under this project selected public sector companies, private sector companies and individuals will develop tourist amenities at heritage sites. They are being called as ‘Monument Mitra’ and adopt the sites essentially under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity.

The responsibility is to make the heritage and tourism sites more sustainable through conservation and development. A unique initiative to make India tourist friendly and enhance the tourism potential and cultural importance in a planned and phased manner the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) has adopted the trail from Stok Village to the base camp of Mt. Stok Kangri to clean up the trek.

The first phase of this cleaning starts from July 5, 2018. The idea behind project – Apni Dharohar Apni Pehchaan — is to entrust heritage sites and preserve the past for future generations. The project aims to develop synergy among all partners.
